The Philips Index has been looking at what drives populations in different countries. People have been asked what areas of their life they find most important, and how closely these have been met. The common ground has been that people in all countries regard their health and well-being as good or very good - at least at first glance. The differences emerge in what people find important and how they feel these demands are met. Some emerging pictures that Americans try to find balance in a world of competing demands; Chinese people value a long life and spending time alone. Brazilians, meanwhile, have a great optimism, are content with their family situations but are concerned about the instability and stress created by their working life. The Dutch are very optimistic about their health and well-being, whereas Brits feel pretty terrible about their state of health and well-being. The Philips Index is centered on the belief that in order to improve the health and well-being of citizens worldwide, their needs desires and motivations need to be understood. The Brazil, China, US, Spain, France, Belgium, UK, The Netherlands reports are the first in a series commissioned globally with further reports published in the coming months.
